Totogi announced today that VIVA Bolivia has selected its ontology solution to make decisions on network investment. According to the American company, these decisions will be based on the revenue attributable to each cell site rather than capacity metrics alone.

The Totogi Ontology will connect VIVA’s commercial and network systems, including vendor and homegrown applications running on-premise and in the Microsoft Azure public cloud. The outcome will be one single model of the business that decisions can run on, without replacing any of them.

“Every vendor says they do AI. Totogi is the only one whose AI actually understands how our business works,” said Ryan Alvarez, CEO of VIVA Bolivia, in a press release. “For us, this was never just about the network. It tells us where we actually make money and why, and gives us the foundation to make decisions that grow our business.”

What an Ontology Is

The ontology is a framework or a model that sees and defines the whole business, all sites. In a nutshell, it’s a way to give data enhanced context, allowing AI to make smart connections by itself.

One advantage is that operators can put different systems, used in different parts of the business, to talk to each other. Without an ontology, AI agents, for example, can only act on a given vendor’s ecosystem.

“Because the model is reusable, network investment is the first decision it improves, not the last. With that model, cost to serve, once known only as a company-wide total, becomes visible per customer and per site,” Totogi explained in the press release.

The same connected model links network performance to VIVA’s SuperApp and advertising business, the foundation for growing the digital services that run on top of the network.

“The industry spent hundreds of billions on 5G and is still debating the return. The same decision is coming with 6G, and most operators will make it the way they always have: by traffic charts,” said Danielle Rios, CEO of Totogi. “Efficiency is the small prize. The big one is the build you don’t get wrong — VIVA now sees, before spending, which sites return the investment and which never will,” she concluded.
