An annual report by Corporate Knights shows that telecom companies have been slowly growing among the world’s most sustainable businesses.
According to the latest issue of the Global 100 report, 11 companies in the telecom industry made the list. This is one up from 2024 and two up from the 2023 edition. Nona has made the top 10.
This year, the following companies appear as the most sustainable businesses in either the “telecom providers” or “telephones and telecom equipment” group:
- BCE
- Nokia
- Telus
- Cisco
- Cogeco Communications
- Apple
- Ericsson
- StarHub
- Telefonica Brasil
- Singapore Telecommunications
- BT
While the numbers indicate more steadiness than growth, they also show that the sector’s share is one of the largest among industries.
In 2023, telecom providers were tied for fourth place, behind banks, pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturing, and machinery manufacturing. In 2025, the same group was in third place.
“We’re finding that growth in sustainable revenues is outpacing all other revenues,” Toby Heaps, co-founder and CEO of Corporate Knights, said in a press release.
“Over the last five years for major global public companies, sustainable revenues are growing twice as fast as other revenues, and they now represent over $5 trillion of annual revenues for the largest publicly traded companies that we track,” he added.
