The University College Dublin (UCD) has announced the launch of a new 6G research initiative in Europe. The project, called Evolution in Security and Privacy for 6G networks, or ENSURE-6G, will last two years and comprise 15 partner institutions.
Among the initiative goals, researchers aim to develop advanced security and privacy measures specific to the requirements of B5G and 6G networks. They will also conduct work to enhance the resilience of network infrastructures to safeguard users and connected devices.
Security has always been a concern for the telecom sector, but the rise of technologies such as AI and quantum computing, and the development of 6G, has made it an even hotter topic in the industry.
“ENSURE-6G represents a crucial step in developing secure and privacy-preserving communication systems for the future,” said Madhusanka Liyanage, Director of UCD NetsLab. “By addressing both cyber and physical threats, this project ensures a safer adoption of 6G technologies globally,” he added.
The initiative will receive more than €1.5 million under Horizon Europe and will feature institutions from Europe, Asia, and South America. The UCD NetsLab will coordinate the project.
