The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will hold one last open meeting before the new administration takes over.
While it will not necessarily set a concrete agenda for Brendar Carr’s tenure as Chairman, which starts on January 21st, it is an opportunity to have a sneak peek at some of the agency’s directions.
According to the FCC, the meeting will be split into four panels:
- The Commission will hear presentations on the agency’s work on expanding connectivity and access to modern communications.
- The Commission will hear presentations on the agency’s work on making communications more just for more people in more places.
- The Commission will hear presentations on the agency’s work on national security, public safety, and protecting consumers.
- The Commission will hear presentations on the agency’s work on the future of communications.
The FCC has held several task force and informal advisor meetings throughout the year to discuss the next generation of mobile communications in the United States and how the agency could help the country secure early leadership in topics such as 6G.
However, it’s important to point out that Carr is expected to run the agency in a different way, potentially towards deregulating the market, for instance, and tightening the approach regarding China and Chinese companies. How the new Chairman’s style impacts matters such as 6G and future technologies is still a question mark.
The event is scheduled for January 15, 2025, at 10:30 am ET. It will be open for public attendance and streamed live on the agency’s website.
